It’s almost like a ‘jatara’ in the fields where arenas for the cockfight were arranged. Be it celebrities, women and children, none was an exception in considering the blood sport a part of the tradition of the harvest festival.
Air-conditioned tents, huge galleries, digital screens, drones, liquor shops, biryani points, VIP movements, posh cars and huge parking lots. This was the scene at many courts in Krishna, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, East Godavari and other districts in the last two days.
Huge pandals were erected and the banned game was being organised under the flood lights. At many places, MLAs, MLCs, and some celebrities inaugurated the fights in which NRIs from Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other States participated.
Huge amounts were placed on the roosters by people from Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Pune and other cities. Traffic came to a standstill on many roads in the Krishna, Guntur and the twin Godavari districts as thousands of people thronged the venues. This time round, women punters participated in the fights in a big way and the organisers arranged separate arenas for them.
