Prizes galore for winners of sports events at St Xavier’s

PATNA: St Xavier’s students Amitabh Anand (Class VII), Vasundhara Singh (Class VI), Shratik Kumar (Class VIII), Nutan Nameeta Xalxo (Class VIII), Mayank Bharti (Class IX), Anjali Kumari (Class IX), Kaleb Diwan (Class XI) and Ujala Singh (Class XI) received championship trophies at the annual sports meet of their school on Saturday.

While Ratnesh Verma, Vinayak Lal and Priyanshu of Class II secured the first, second and third positions respectively in the 50m race for boys, Aadya, Shameela and Shubhangini won the first three prizes in the girls’ category. Class III students Abhinav Bharti, Saurabh Kumar and Ankit Raj won the 50m race in the boys’ group whereas Prachi Priyadarshini, Pragya and Purvi Pathak excelled in the girls’ category. In the 75m race, Class IV boys Augusta, Shashnak Sinha and Rahul Raj secured the first, second and third positions respectively, while Anushka, Aditi Saranya and Komal Kumari were declared winners in the girls’ group.

In the spoon race for Class II girls, Kulsum Fatima won the gold medal, Navya Gupta got silver and Arya Kumari and Arya Krishna won bronze medals. John Ghosh, Mayank Kumar and Yuvraj Singh received medals in the boys’ category. While Class III boys Abu Karmrul Bashar, Sulaiman and Ankit Raj excelled in the spoon race, Pragya, Prachi Priyadarshini and Alleyah Aziz of Class IV secured the first three positions.

Pammi Kumari stood first in the one-legged race for Class II girls whereas Aadya and Khushi Sneha got the second and third positions respectively. In the balancing the stick contest for Class III students, Amit, Ankit Raj and Rishab Kumar won in the boys’ group. Dolly Kumari, Reena and Afreen bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively in the girls’ category.

While Class IV student Augusta won the first prize, his classmates Amanat Raj and Aryan Raj stood second and Jasir Javed was third in the wheelbarrow race for boys. Komal Kumari, Anushka Kumaria and Aditi Saranya, on the other hand, won the first three prizes in the thread and needle race. In cock fight, Chaitanya, Ati Anand and Aman Gidh bagged the first, second and third trophies respectively.

A major highlight of the sports meet was the special PT display on ‘My Bihar, My Pride’, ‘Save Earth, Save Trees’ and ‘Nature and Her Strength’. The karate and yoga performances were also appreciated by the audience.

The students welcomed district sports officer (Patna) Sanjay Kumar, who was the chief guest of the occasion. The guests of honour were orthopaedic Dr Amulya Kumar Singh and cardiologist Dr Amitabh.

School principal Rev Fr Jacob Olickthotty SJ, vice-principal Fr Christu Savarirajan SJ and the teachers motivated the students to take part in more such events in future.

Mt Carmel High School: Tiny tots presented umbrella drill, aerobics, boogie-woogie, Brazil dance and yoga at the annual sports function of primary wing of Mt Carmel High School. The event was inaugurated by Patna Archbishop William D’souza. Students participated in various activities like sack race, spoon race, three-legged race, garland race and shoe race. School principal Sr M Serena AC and vice-principal Sr Prisca D’Mello were also present.

NIT-P: The five-day international conference on quantum foundations, organised by the physics department of National Institute of Technology-Patna, concluded with two technical sessions on Saturday. Seven research papers were presented by the experts from India and abroad on the last day.

IIT-P: On the second day of the 39th international conference of the Linguistic Society of India at IIT-Patna, Girish Nath Jha from Jawaharlal Nehru University and K V Subbarao from Delhi University spoke on their research papers on Saturday.
