‘Sabungeros’ exhibit to open

DURHAM — Douglas Vuncannon is a documentary photographer, composer, and writer who teaches documentary photography at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.

From 2014 to 2016, Vuncannon photographed cockfighting in the Philippines. Cockfighting is a thriving, and legal, pastime in the Philippines, but Vuncannon’s photographs focus on illegal, open-air dirt pits. The body of work, titled “Sabungeros” (“Cockfighters”) will be on view at Through This Lens beginning Feb. 17 and continuing through March 11.

The opening reception for the exhibit is Feb. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Through This Lens, 303 E. Chapel Hill St. This event is free and open to the public.
